Failure of yarn WIPS & Other Ramblings

Warning: bad pictures, and I complain about food later.

Hello! I was actually starting on my perfume project pan update (planning on the 25th) but I figured I should make a separate post for all the unrelated ramblings that started forming in my head.
I would like to say I've been inspired by the various fiber arts bloggers I've witnessed recently, and have made many wonderful things. Instead I've been constantly frogging and restarting and getting no where on various things.

A while ago I made this triangle shawl and hated it. I have once again restarted it, and again am attempting the mobius shawl (but with dcs this time.) I just don't really care for the colors of this cake and if I end up hating it I'm fully giving up. Lion Brand mandala bonus bundle in "Wraith".

Started this forever ago with leftover yarn, one day will be a (pretty airy) drawstring bag. Maybe I'll use it as a gift bag, maybe it'll be a project bag. I'm not sure. It's dcs worked row-by-row, on top of a in-the-round circle base; Big Twist and RHSS in various shades.

This one's finished! But I don't care for it. It's a placemat. Made with that same brown yarn that has become the bane of my existence, and very wobbly. It's c2c with a couple rows of sc around the border; RHSS in "Shaded Browns".

A Libation Beast! This pattern is so stinking cute. I got ahead of myself and attached the neck to the body, when I should have made and attached the snout first. I lost steam and got annoyed and set it aside for months now. So...this flesh yam has just been hanging out since. Also I'm not positive I have enough yarn to finish it (I might use a different one on the insides of the bowl to be safe ๐Ÿ˜ฌ) Knit Picks wool of the andes in "blossom heather"

Most common example of how knit/crochet goes for me. I've been wanting a small rug for my bedroom for eons now, so I started and restarted a million different patterns and yarns and textures. This is 2 rows of seed stitch before realizing I definitely do not have enough yarn. It's two mystery acrylics held double. Both are white with pastel blue/green.

None of these pictures are good but this one is particularly bad, sorry. This is a total disaster ๐Ÿ˜ญ. And basically every roadbump is my fault. My niece asked me to "sew" her a Hello Kitty Mermaid for Christmas. I spent a month or so trying my best to find a naked hello kitty, or at least one with removable clothes, or maybe even one in a tanktop/tube top; that I could then knit or crochet a mermaid tail for. No such luck. Eventually I gave up and bought her an official hello kitty mermaid (in all but name...) I feel bad because she specifically asked for me to make her one, but I don't know where her point of view is from. I don't know if she just asked because she knows I can make things, or if she specifically wanted it to be knit/crocheted. Also she reminded me her favorite colors are pink and purple, which Pisces Kitty lacks. I remember being disappointed pretty frequently at the "its a kid who gives a shit" approach a lot when I was a child; and I really hate to continue that trend. My idea to make up for it was to knit her a mermaid tail blanket to go along with it. Not this pattern, but this general style; where it's not a tube and can sit "over" you more like a normal blanket. My thought process being that it'd be more forgiving for a growing kid. If I was crocheting it I could probably be done, or close by now. But I insisted on knit because the holes would be smaller. BUT not only can I not knit anywhere near as fast, I'm much newer at it and its harder on my hands so I max out at .5-1 rows a day :(. I'm never going to finish this in time. And now I don't have enough yarn to start over in crochet, I'm pretty sure. I feel so bad ๐Ÿ˜ข.
It's Lion Brand Mandala Sparkle in "draco". A funny thing I've noticed with this yarn is that it's literally impossible to get a good photo of, I've never seen a photo online (not even official sale listings) that's 100% accurate to the colors. Is it the sparkle that messes with the camera's balance? Most often, one of the colors look way darker/more saturated than the rest.

The vision: It's a giant garter stitch rectangle that will be a slip-on cover for my dnd binder. The dark brown is the bulk of it, and the shaded brown (STILL have some left btw) is a stockinette inlay at what will be the upper third of it. I think/hope it'll look really nice once it's done actually. This has been going at glacial pace because it was my travel/waiting room project. I think after the holidays I'm going to focus on it directly.

Not included: I think 4 different instances of starting to make a little basket to hold extra toilet paper rolls. I'm indecisive :')

Health Life update: It's been a few months since my gallbladder removal. Mobility-wise, I've been totally back to normal for a while now! My diet obviously is forever a bit different, but it's pretty alright. I'm still really bad about convenience food. Instant noodles, canned soups, frozen dinners. My soul heart loves them, my literal heart does not ๐Ÿ’”
The worst part, still, is the social aspect. Oh my god all of life revolves around food. I hate going to restaurants so much now, but it feels like it's all my friends want to do. I get nauseous and extremely anxious every time I sit at a table. We have to try this new restaurant. We should go back to this place it was SO good. When you guys come over we should all cook and eat this dish. We're ordering pizza for when you come over. Should we bring snacks. We brought food just in case. You have to try this. AAAAAAAAAAAAAA. [mild meltdown redacted. Also it's the holiday season so I'm on the cusp of crashing out over nothing, at any second, in general fwiw.]

Disregarding that, things are pretty alright now lol. Typing helped me think my thoughts, I think I'm gonna try to crochet the mermaid tail and just hope I can find the extra yarn in stores last minute. With crochet I can do shell stitch which is considerably more "mermaid". Worst case, it wasn't going to be done in time anyway ๐Ÿ˜ฌ.
