I changed it a few months ago so it's not representative of this full year, but oh well. Just imagine Curious and Tease are in there and I miss them every day 😔.
It's Been A Year!
- It took almost the whole time, but I worked out a layout for these posts that I actually like LOL
- In my first post I gave a very general estimate that I have about 5 years worth of stank, and not including the new ones I've bought, yeah I think it's about right.
- I used to use washi tape to mark bottles, I stopped because A| I'm out of my thin ones, which at this scale were still too big anyway, B| the marker is easier and even smaller. The downside is that Sharpie really wants to rub off of glass bottles, specifically smooth, rounded Hello Kitty arghhh. Since I've gone to making notches every 6 months, maybe I'll put washi tape on HK just so it's there.
- BTW, I do not regret switching to marking the bottles every 6 months. I'd recommend more often if you're just trying to focus on one or two bottles at a time. I'm using my whole collection whenever I feel like, so this is what works for me.
- I had 14 bottles to start on that page, I've since thrown away 6! of those, and 2-3 more are in a limbo state. (Vanilla Musk lives in a drawer as passive drawer-smell. Sun-Ripened Raspberry has been fully demoted to room spray. Brazilian Crush continues to ??????? me.) I've purchased/received 5 new fragrances in the last 12 months (Cheeky Biquini, Limonada Gelada, Refresco Paraiso, Sunflowers, and Cherry Blossom). I currently have 11 bottles, so if my goal was specifically number go down, I've still been succeeding.
- I have formed very minor opinions on Fragrantica VS Parfumo. Fragrantica is older and much more prolific. Parfumo is just a better website, I like how it works and looks more. I purposely avoid the social features on both, and I don't even leave reviews/notes. I use neither beyond remembering I have accounts once every couple of months, sometimes using one or the other to add fragrances to wish lists/want to try lists. I track my perfume daily in a physical planner, and monthly here + spreadsheets.
The weight tracker and the usage tracker, respectively. The latter feeds the pie chart. I plan to reset the pie chart and its sheet at the beginning of every year (real, calendar year, so not now.) I considered changing the columns of the weight tracker to just plain slots to track every bottle for like, forever... but also I don't know if I care that much? I think I like the visual of how long a bottle was owned more than actually caring about the weight. I'll think about it.
Project Pan PThoughts
I don't think Project Pan is a very appropriate name for this, I'm content with the fragrances (variety and amount) I have. I've gotten attached to PPP so it's staying 😭. BUT ALSO I think you should try tracking something like this for a while! It can be fun and makes you be a bit more honest with yourself. I've started tracking my personal care items similarly (though, its just an inventory + start/end dates) and it helps me keep in mind that I have plenty of items to get through. Also the literal list is helping a lot as I'm slowly fine tuning my perfect daily rotation (I have my cleanser and moisturizer, pretty close on shampoo, a couple good options for body soap, etc.) (Don't ask about my art supplies/stickynotes)
I think the least surprising takeaway from this project is how much I love sweet and fruity scents. I feel like on paper I'm more into florals than my collection shows. The evidence of that is how much I use Cherry Blossom, which completely surprised me at first. I admire complex scents (Sunflowers and Cleopatra specifically) but I obviously seem to prefer more simple ones for the every day. Also, I'm realizing how much I like NOT gourmand, yet warm, scents. Night Iris and the little hint of warmth in Refresco (the skin musk) stand out to me like this. I like musk (in certain ways), amber, resin, and woods. I have no idea what this actually is, but Lucky #6 and Cheeky Biquini have these slight "itchy" qualities to them, like they sort of irritate my nose. It makes me avoid them because they feel strong, but strength isn't quite the problem. Maybe its certain sharp florals? I dunno.
Next Month & Beyond
I purchased my planner for next year so I'm un-immune to looking at perfume. There's only one I really want, and you know what it is. But it will not fit comfortably in the tray until I take Brazilian Crush out to tend the rabbits so I remain strong 🧘♀️. The first step of the confusing naming/numbering convention is up, starting in 2027 it'll... not be like this!
