Show and Tell: Crochet Blankets & Other Projects
Hello! Earlier this year my sister moved out of what was once our grandmother's house, so decades worth of stored things in the basement had to be gone through. My grandmother crocheted a lot as well as having stuff from family/friends. Here's some projects I found! I apologize in advance for the quality of a lot of these photos though; I was doing my best in a poorly lit, messy basement by myself lol.

Two very 70's granny square blankets. I don't recall seeing either of these around, but the green one is a lot more scratchy and seems older than the brown one.

This one is really impressive, and really heavy. It has cross stitched and embroidered details. I genuinely can't tell if this is Tunisian crochet or single crochets done blo. What makes it more confusing is nobody knows of anyone in the family that could do tunisian crochet... but there was a project that was actually tunisian crochet stored with some of these blankets.

This! And it's unfinished, so it's not a gift. But no tunisian hook around either. I have no idea what the story behind this is.

Three chevron blankets. My sister actually took the blue one. The pink one is, funnily enough, almost identical to a blanket my other grandmother crocheted for me; except the peach color is bright white. It's probably all the same shades of RHSS lol. I found a ~10inch test swatch of the multicolor blanket in another box.

The first blanket is a small lap blanket that actually lived on the back of my grandmother's couch ("The Davenport") for at least as long as I was forming memories. Probably longer, judging by the color scheme lol. I can't figure out what the technique for the second blanket (which is one of literally 100s of baby afghans my grandmother had made) is, though I like the look. I'd love to try both of these patterns out someday.

Three more baby blankets, all made the same way as the windmill one. What confuses me is that the borders are definitely regular crochet. They're all really heavy as well. My friend actually took the bear and the bright rainbow one!

Stripes! I love the stitch pattern of the first one. The second one is a mile-a-minute, which despite my impatience, I have never tried yet. The third one isn't out of focus! It's a rarity: felted acrylic. That one also lived on The Davenport.

Some non-blanket items. A filet valance. A doily. Two decorated pillowcase edges! And a tablecloth. Which also serves as a reminder that not using =/= protecting items. I believe the tablecloth was originally cream and not white, for what its worth...

To finish off the photos, some pillows that I recall from my childhood but kind of hate lol. They lived in plastic bags in a closet, and I was only allowed to occasionally look at them. They existed as "yeah it'd be cute to have them out but nahhhhh." Also, they're made of the world's scratchiest acrylic and I think the chevron-to-centerpoint attachment (with the giant holes) looks dumb. I've seen much better looking ones while attempting to find the original pattern of these. And now they're living the same life, just in a different house!
It is not bad to use things you think are nice. It is not bad to give items (whether you personally like the object or not) to people who will use them. This is a subject that drives me absolutely bananas and is so hard to change and I'm cutting myself off here lol. Also I don't want to kill the mood, the main point of this post is to go wow look! Wow! Look! There's some fantastic craftsmanship here. Lots of very even tension specifically.
